Desexing (also known as speying, castrating or neutering) is a routine surgery with real benefits: it supports long-term health, reduces unwanted territorial or aggressive behaviour, and prevents unplanned litters. The ideal age varies by breed, size and individual circumstance, so we'll assess your pet and recommend the right time.

Our desexing fee is all-inclusive - a pre-op health check, pre-surgery anti-anxiety medication to give at home, general anaesthetic, IV fluids during surgery, the procedure itself, pain relief, nursing care before and after, and a post-op nurse check a week later.

Our team handles the majority of soft tissue procedures in-house, including lump removals, biopsies, exploratory laparotomies, caesareans, wound and hernia repair, and removal of swallowed foreign objects. Eye conditions need specialised equipment to diagnose properly, and we're set up to check for a damaged cornea, assess eye pressure for glaucoma, and perform procedures like entropion and ectropion correction, eyelid tumour removal, and cherry eye repair.

For the more involved cases, we work closely with Dr Kathleen Graham, an experienced referral eye vet at SASH, who can provide advanced diagnostics and surgery including corneal debridement, conjunctival grafts and orbital imaging coordination.

Fractures, ligament injuries and spinal issues fall under orthopaedic care. Our vets will assess and recommend the right path forward - some procedures can be handled with a visiting specialist surgeon at our clinic, while others are best referred externally for the right equipment and expertise.
